- Delta-When a river reaches a lake or the sea the water slows down and loses the power to carry sediment . The sediment is dropped at the mouth of the river. Some rivers drop so much sediment that waves and tides can’t carry it all away. It builds up in layers forming a delta.
- Estuary is a partially enclosed coastal body of brackish water with one or more rivers or streams flowing into it, and with a free connection to the open sea.
- Lagoons are shallow bodies of water which got separated from a larger body of water by some barrier or reefs. It looks like this.
- Bay is a broad inlet of the sea where the land curves inwards
- A gulf is said to be a large body of water that is surrounded by land and having only a narrow entrance
- A strait is a narrow waterway that connects two large water bodies like this
- A peninsula is a piece of land that is bordered by water on three sides but connected to mainland.
